Sawmill Gains New Supports

Mackinaw City, Mich. – The water-powered sawmill at Historic Mill Creek will be standing stronger this year, thanks to the efforts of park operations personnel. Last fall, a crew replaced the all-wood supports that held up the mill with steel beams anchored into cement footings. This spring, the beams will be covered with wood to replicate the original materials. This project will help to preserve the structure while maintaining the reconstructed sawmill’s historic look and feel.
