Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park Grand Opening Event

WHEN: June 17, 2008
WHERE: Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park, located five minutes south of Mackinaw City, Michigan, along US-23.
WHY: Celebration of the new Adventure Tour and children’s activity center additions to the park

It is a long-standing tradition of Mackinac State Historic Parks (MSHP) to create the best experiences possible for its many visitors while also educating them on the many rich historic and natural resources of its parks.  This held true in the beginning, when Dr. Eugene Petersen, the first director of MSHP, created the Fort Mackinac museum 50 years ago this year, and it held true when Dr. David Armour, previous MSHP deputy director, assisted in the reconstruction of Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park, which opened for the first time to the public in 1984 as Old Mill Creek. And it holds true today as the parks works to create even more fun and educational opportunities at Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park. The new Adventure Tour, consisting of a park naturalist guided tour across the Forest Canopy Bridge and then down the Eagle’s Flight Zip Line, offers an exciting natural adventure where guests will learn about the parks many plant and animal species during an exhilarating experience. In addition, the children’s activity centers, including the Water Power Station and Forest Friends Play Area, will provide fun and educational games and play environments for children (and adults!) to experience the parks historical and natural resources.

These many new features open to the public on May 5, opening day at Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park.

On June 17, 2008, MSHP invites its many visitors to celebrate the grand opening of the new features at the park during the Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park grand opening event.

More details on the event will be posted as spring approaches.
