Frequently Asked Questions

  • The project expects to break ground in the fall of 2027 with an expected timeline of 12-18 months. This timeline will partially depend on weather conditions as that will impact how late into the 2027 season work can be done and how early in 2028 work can restart.

  • Portions of the park may be closed while they are being worked on, but at no point will the entire park be closed during construction. Every effort will be made to minimize the space closed to the public at any given time but once construction begins, please be mindful of any signs or barriers noting active construction areas.

  • Yes! Michilimackinac State Park picnic grounds and day-use area will contine to be a free space for all to enjoy. Colonial Michilimackinac and Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse will continue to have an admission fee.

  • Many of the updates occuring are with accessibility in mind. There will be several what we are calling “accessible picnic pods” that can be reached by a sidewalk, be on an accessible surface, and contain an accessible picnic table.

  • The restrooms in the parking lot of Colonial Michilimackinac Visitior’s Center were updated with the renovation of that space that was completed in 2025. This has provided indoor restrooms and a fully accessible restroom as well. The restroom building in the park near the lighthouse received cosmetic updates in spring of 2026 and will be more fully updated in the future as a separate project from the rest of the updates to the park.

  • Yes! A dedicated wedding ceremony space featuring a pergola will be available to rent on the east side of the park. The new pavilion space may be rented for wedding ceremonies or receptions. More information will be availalbe as the project progresses.
